Tell us about the one pair of sneakers you couldn't live without?
I'm well aware of the sneaker game & also the joints that make the heads turn & also joints that don't, lol. However being from Team Cozy I really do prefer comfort and the ultimate beater over the super rarities. That's why one sneaker I can't live without would have to be my Mayflys. While they weren't super expensive when they first released - they are hands down one of Nike's best silhouettes. They are just way too comfy and cozy.
How did you come across them?
I'm from Perth - which is known as the world's most isolated city. So when the four way colour drop came to my local sneaker store (HAL) I had to cop them all at once! Highs & Lows has always been there for me and my sneaker needs.
What led you to sneaker collecting?
To be honest - just the need to always flex. I came from a childhood where my parents would never buy me too many sneakers. When I was a teenager that is all I used to save my money up for. Like most Filipinos, I went through the Jordan & Kobe stage and always bought ball shoes. As I got older, my taste changed and I would seek out sneakers with more of a refined and detailed aesthetic. There are a lot of beautiful vision and artistic creativity involved in your favourite shoe.
If given the chance to collaborate on one sneaker design, which brand and model would you choose? What would the finished product look like?
There are so many! But given the light of Kobe's recent retirement announcement, I would love to have my own custom Kobe 10 Elite Lows - all black everything on the flyknit with a gum sole & white flyknit tick. Boring I know - but IT'S MY SHOE!
Tell us about the most memorable sneakers from your childhood.
When I was just about to enter high school, my mum picked up these incredibly beat Jordan 1's from a thrift store. I wore them every single day for about 3 years. They were amazing and I didn't realize the significance of what I was wearing until I left high school.
Were there any sneakers you couldn't afford growing up?
All of them - haha. I always wanted a pair of Adidas Shell Toes, due to my obsession with hip hop at a young age.
What is your biggest sneaker pet peeve?
To me, it's collectors that are nazis. Sneaker collecting is like most hobbies or passions. Every collector has their own tastes & preferences and even knowledge. Nothing annoys me more than a collector that thinks they are superior due to his or her particular taste. Taste is relative.
Tell us about your most recent pickup.
Asics x Monkeytime Japan GL3 'SANDLAYER'. They are an incredibly tidy shoe with wonderful texture and pattern blocking. Materials such as pigskin nubuck can be found throughout the upper along with a splatter print on the shoe’s heel.
What pair of sneakers continues to elude you?
Sadly, the Pirate Black Yeezy 350. Some people hate them. I love them. Anyone got the plug?
