Tell me about the one pair of shoes from your collection you could not live without
The shoe in my collection that means the most to me, is the Reebok x Garbstore Insta Pump Fury. I'm willing to venture off into new things and try something different. This was the case with the Insta Pump Fury model. I was at a point where I really wanted to experiment with my sneaker collection. 2014 marked the 20th anniversary for the Insta Pump Fury, which led to the shoes flooding sneaker websites. Since the shoe kept appearing in every other article on the internet, I decided to give them a shot. There was an abundance of other Insta Pump collaborations to choose from, but the Garbstores caught my attention immediately. Upon seeing them, I knew that the natural tones and subtleness of the shoe would compliment my style well.
How did you obtain them?
I checked every sneaker boutique in the city, which left me feeling a bit disappointed, because none of them had oredered the shoe. A random stroll through Yorkville had lead me to a high-end contemporary menswear boutique, Uncle Otis. Sure enough, I found a pair in the corner of the store on the feet of a mannequin, decked out in Maharishi clothing. I was astonished and instantly asked for a size 9. Once I put them on, I knew I made the right choice. They were super comfortable.
What were some influences that led you to collect sneakers?
My older cousin is the reason I really got into collecting sneakers. Growing up, I spent most of my weekends at his place. He had a massive collection of Jordans and Nike's. I often found myself squandering hours of my time looking at his sneakers. Examining the different materials used, colours and feeling the texture of the shoes. Seeing how big of a collection my cousin had really inspired me to go on to have a collection for myself.
Walk us through your ideal collaboration
An ideal collaboration would be Norse Projects x New Balance 1500. A collaboration should use an uncommon material and have a strong theme, good collaborations usually come with personal stories as the source of inspiration.
Are there any sneakers that stick out in your mind from your childhood?
Air Jordan IV "Black Cat", Air Jordan XIX and Nike Air Penny 1/2 Cents.
Was there a pair of sneakers you remember growing up that you were not able to afford?
Adidas T-Mac 5. I really wanted these shoes to play basketball in when I was in the 5th grade, but at the time, they cost $130. It was $130 too expensive for me. I was really young and naive then and I really believed they would make me a better basketball player...haha. That was the excuse I use to persuade my mom into getting them for me, but she knew better and wasn't buying it.
What's your most recent pickup?
Nike Air Huarache Light in the OG Ultramarine colourway.
What’s one grail that continues to elude you?
Air Jordan 1 "Bred"
