Tell us about the one pair of sneakers you couldn't live without?
Since they're the only pair of shoes I own that are even slightly close to being water resistant, I probably couldn't live without my Nike Lunar Elite Sky Hi Sneakerboots in black/volt (although I hope we are all very aware I easily could and that's just a hyperbole). They prevent the rain from reaching my socks, they prevent me from face planting while walking on ice (like 72% of the time), and they prevent me from wasting those precious 21 seconds in the morning most people dedicate to tying their shoe laces. Very practical.
How did you come across them?
Basically saw an Asian mom wearing them once and decided they were my only alternative to boots. I wasn't going to try an East Coast winter for a second year in a row in trainers.
What led you to sneaker collecting?
I don't collect sneakers, or anything in general (except maybe books). I like the idea of owning one of something until it falls apart.
If given the chance to collaborate on one sneaker design, which brand and model would you choose? What would the finished product look like?
I'm wearing a borrowed pair of Vans checkered slip-ons that kind of need an update. Maybe in white leather and that colour of white leather when dark jeans rub off on them.
Were there any sneakers you couldn't afford growing up?
Pretty much all and any.
What is your biggest sneaker pet peeve?
What's up with women's shoes colourways?
Tell us about your most recent pickup.
The last pair of sneakers I bought were a pair of Nike Air Rifts while I was in Tokyo. Mainly because it was humid, my feet were sweaty, and I wanted to go sans socks. There may have also been a 50-year-old shop owner/fashion designer wearing them nonchalantly enough that my opinion was swayed.
What pair of sneakers continues to elude you?
How do I get my hands on a pair of Margiela cement sneakers (without the graffiti design) in a size 7.5? Please advise.
